¡¡¡¡In 1998 at the Cit¨¦ des Art in Paris the artists Arthur Yang and Mia Macfarlane began to experiment with a new type of expression, a conversation between artists called "Jam Painting".

¡¡¡¡The prototype for this type of artistic exchange could be the international group "Cobra" from the end of 1940s, early 1950s, or the tradition of "jam sessions" in Jazz.

¡¡¡¡Just as musicians improvise in a jam session two or several painters hold a visual dialogue where a non-verbal expression provokes a response that in turn provokes a reaction from a partner. The work of art that results from a Jam Painting session reflects the styles of each artist without necessarily resembling what each artist would paint separately.

¡¡¡¡This method of creating supposes that the artists have the capacity to interpret and adapt to certain visual clich¨¦s (such as known "classical" images and compositions) for the dynamic objectives of the conversation or to work spontaneously with abstract images.

¡¡¡¡This happening can also be accompanied in collaboration with the painters, by other artistic genre such as dance singing, poetry, cinema, etc. and most notably with improvised music. In this case the event is called "Jam Art" and includes an artistic dialogue between all the participants.
