Globalization:

visible and invisible first Chinese international forum about communicating visual culture

The photograph exhibition, Inheriting and developing, visual thinking of Chinese and German photographer, will be held at Shanghai Deke Erh Art Center (2#, Lane 210, Tai Kang road) from May 30th to Jun 6th 2004. We warmly welcome everybody to enjoy!

The exhibition will display about 60 works of Chinese photographer Deke Erh and German photographer Jan Siefke. These exhibits include the landscape of German city, such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Dresden, taken by Deke Erh, and Chinese scenery photos of Siefke. The photos displayed on this exhibition express the opinion about inheriting and developing of two artists.

Jan Siefke thinks that Shanghai is a modern metropolis which reflects the identical elements of world culture and the blend of eastern and western culture, so it is not a purely China. However some Chinese northerly regions still retain unmixed Chinese feature, he thinks that it is the soul of oriental culture. Siefke tries to appeal: we couldn’t reform Chinese culture blindly by means of western modern civilization. On the contrary, modern German cities photo in Deke Erh’s works, although had experienced war and divide, take on an uninterrupted Germany civilization state. For instance, Dresden, almost destroyed in world war two, try to reappear style and feature of prewar Germany. So the thinking of Deke Erh also bases on inheriting and developing, just like Jan Siefke.

Two artists, although come from different country and have different culture background, happen to have the same view, if you want to everyone of the world to recognize you, you must persist in native feature.
