Fire Stations
Each concession had its own Fire Department, composed primarily of Chinese firemen and a few western supervisors and volunteers. They were proud of their expertise and often gave demonstrations of their skill, as shown in the earlier picture taken at the firehouse in Hongkew. The later picture is the building as it appears today. A bit earlier on, a peep in the door would have revealed 1930's and 40's fire trucks, which were used well into the 1970's.
