| This
masterpiece of municipal architecture was built by a British firm in 1881 in the fortress style typical of that day. Not only were there
extensive buildings for every phase of the water filtration process, but
there were also gardens, tennis courts, a club house and other amenities
which we might envy tody.
A stroll through the works is like walking through an industrial museum. Most of the equipment in use is that installed well over a hundred years ago. It not only continues to function, but it is still esthetically pleasing, now as then, as these pictures from the 1880's reveal. |
