The apex of this triangular shaped building faces west and has a golden glow at sunset. The building is located near what was formerly Shanghai's most exclusive club, the Cercle Sportif Francais. This location made it particularly popular with the younger set - but only the Westerners, as Chinese were not admitted to the club until after World War II. Indeed, a 1939 listing of the Astrid's many tenants reveals only one Chinese name. |

| One floor of the apartment house is now occupied by a hospital, and the remainder by the "laobaixing" or "old hundred names" - the Chinese term for the common people. | |||
